Our Story

Legacy of Leadership

East Union Baptist Church (EUBC) has been serving the Lord for more than 150 years now. EUBC was originally located near where Arch Street Pike crosses Lorance creek on the west side of Hwy 367. Documentation suggests that EUBC was organized about 1857.  The church had 21 members when it joined the Pine Bluff association as a charter member in October of 1861. In 1875 the church moved its meeting place to the present location. In 1904 land was donated to build a white frame building on the present site and EUBC worshiped in this building until 1944. It was damaged by a storm and the church voted to build a new brick building during the period of World War II. Since there were experienced
craftsman in the congregation it was built with volunteer labor. In 1950 East Union added a pre-fabricated building behind the sanctuary and hosted EUBC’s very first Vacation Bible School. In 1952, Brother J.O Phillips (former Pastor) became the first missionary endorsed and sent out by EUMC. In 1968 Brother Paul Carroll organized the Collegiate Crusade for Christ and this group of college students, teenagers and sponsors traveled to South Carolina, California and Florida witnessing for the Lord. In 1970 EUBC experienced two fires: the parsonage burned in March and the church building burned in December. Services were held in this educational building until we were able to rebuild. Under the leadership of Brother Mack Walls (Pastor) EUMB called Brother Paul Roberts to serve as assistant Pastor and Youth Pastor. In 1994 the church called Brother Paul as Pastor and has continued to serve ever since.

Today’s Leadership

EUBC’s continuous growth has called for more building programs and staff members. The Family Life center was built in 1995 and is used as a fellowship hall, basketball court for upward sports and AWANA ministries, in 1999 a larger sanctuary and additional classroom space was built and in 2009 the Teen Wing (Annex) was added onto the Life Center for the Youth Ministry. During his tenure Brother Paul has assembled a great staff: Dennis Holmes (Outreach Pastor), Jaycob Kramer (Discipleship Pastor), Mark Davis (Music Minister), Doug Goodman (High School Minister), Matt Terry (Middle School Minister), Josh Garcia (Children’s Minister), Lori Davis (Pre-School Coordinator), and Tanner Stoops (Ministry Intern).  Under Brother Paul’s leadership East Union has experienced great growth and has added many ministries and programs for children, teenagers and adults. EUBC started the AWANA ministry and Upward Sports ministry for children in the East End community and continues to reach boys and girls with the gospel. In 1997 EUBC began a youth conference called The Arkansas Youth Conference and continues to see lives changed as a result of this great conference. Just recently, EUBC continued the mission of Grace MBC by planting a Multicultural church and Hispanic Church in Little Rock. EUBC’s model for ministry is WORSHIP, CONNECT, SERVE. Worship is the entry point to get people into our church and into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Connect is the spiritual growth side by getting people connected to a group of people (LifeGroup) and getting them in the Word of God. Serve is the ministry side of getting people plugged into areas of ministry by serving others and serving God.
